Doctoral class international research exchange camp-PhD student: 蘇柏元 / Exchange location: Korea
《Purpose of training 》
Whenever I step out of Taiwan and travel to different countries, I deeply experience the cultural impact of each place. This feeling is something that cannot be experienced while searching for research data or creating works. My research at Yonsei University in South Korea this time is part of my ongoing exploration of academic research in a cross-cultural environment.
I am grateful for the encouragement and opportunities provided by professors and many seniors, which allowed me to apply for this research project abroad. My destination school was Yonsei University, and the initial application process took a lot of time, not only in contacting professors and institutions but also dealing with subsequent visa issues. However, fortunately, the plan was successfully executed.
This time, unlike before, I participated not only as a student but also as a researcher. With a greater familiarity with the Korean language and culture, I felt less nervous and excited than before. Returning to Korea in a different capacity allowed me to integrate more deeply into the country's culture. In the research lab, I held the position of a researcher. While I continue to strive to improve my Korean language skills, I also dedicated more time during this period to executing the research project and participating in various activities within the lab.
The goal of this research program was not only academic pursuit but also to broaden my international perspective. I also became aware of the changes in the world after the pandemic and enhanced my abilities in cross-cultural communication, collaboration, and language skills, laying a more solid foundation for my future academic career.
During the research period, I participated in two seminars in Korea with the research lab: The HCI Society of Korea (HCI 2024) and the NDCS & Yonsei AI Seminar. These experiences were quite different from before.
《Reflection on the Research experience》
Through this overseas research trip, I have gained a lot during my time at Yonsei University. Despite having previous experiences of living and studying in Korea, returning to Korea this time in a different capacity has brought about profound and unique experiences. As one of the top research institutions in Korea, Yonsei University not only fosters a conducive learning environment but also boasts rich academic resources and excellent research teams across various departments within the Design School. This provided me with opportunities to engage in exchanges with top international scholars, expanding my academic horizons. Collaborating with the research teams at Yonsei University has further deepened my understanding of the importance of international cooperation. I have learned how to effectively communicate and collaborate with individuals from diverse cultural backgrounds, enhancing my proficiency in multiple languages.
