2021 Ninth Annual Teachers and Students' Innovative Dream Project
Under the guidance of Professor Jui-che Tu, students Liu Yanpei, Xiao Dongtai, Luo Shichen, Xie Yijing, and Ke Huarong were awarded the 'Silver Prize' in the 2021 Ninth Annual Teachers and Students' Innovative Dream Project.
Design Work Title: Color Roll
Concept: According to the 2019 Global Dementia Report by the Alzheimer's Disease International (ADI), it is projected that the number of dementia cases will reach 152 million by 2050. One person is diagnosed with dementia every three seconds. Based on the epidemiological study conducted by the Taiwan Alzheimer's Disease Association commissioned by the Ministry of Health and Welfare in 100 AD and the population estimate by the Ministry of the Interior at the end of December 108 AD, there are a total of 3,607,127 people aged 65 and above in Taiwan. Among them, 654,971 individuals (18.61%) have mild cognitive impairment, and 280,783 individuals (7.78%) have dementia. In summary, there is approximately 1 person with dementia for every 12 individuals aged 65 and above, and for those aged 80 and above, there is approximately 1 person with dementia for every 5 individuals.
This product aims to slow down dementia in the elderly through the concept of senior toys, promoting a happy and active lifestyle. The toy is not only suitable for children but also for the aging population whose physiological functions are declining. This is because the elderly also express emotions of joy, anger, sorrow, and happiness. Through the process of play, the product stimulates the sensory system, promotes hand-eye coordination, encourages physical activity, and engages mental stimulation. It also fosters an interest in play and has the added benefit of boosting emotional well-being (Tang Weilun, Li Chaojin, 2009; Lin Yendan, 2011).
