Brief introduction

(I)  Goals

1. To be in line with the design industry of the national development, and cultivate advanced professional multivariate design talent:

Along with Taiwan's economic development and industrial upgrading, the demand for design manpower is bound to substantially increase. Therefore, the primary goal of the institute is to focus on both teaching and research, and then develop advanced multivariate professional design talents with the capability of both theory and practice, and also equipped with leadership for integration and R&D, so as to promote our design industry development to enter another new milestone.


2.To value multicultural academic researches and nurture design and research talents and teachers with international perspective:

With the communication and interaction between international and domestic students, the options through the operating system of cross culture studies and even directly working on the system of PhD, these are all the opportunities we provide for our students during the years in the Graduate School of Design. Training the student who has international perspective, and will be competent on design and qualified to teach. Except achieving the purpose of academic and cultural communication, it would further increase our standard in academic education of design.


3. To promote the integration of technology and art in order to reach value added design of New Era Produce:

To inherit the traditional cultural values, learn new ideas and skills from technology, meet design trends of creative industries and create a humane and sustainable living environment through design education of the integration of humanities, aesthetics and technology.


4. To carry out the school』s international policy and establish an international cooperation platform:

To cooperate with the schools to promote international policy, integrate the resources of each department and center of the school of design, organize international academic researches and exchange activities, enrich the content of design education as well as enhance the level of design research, and finally establish an international cooperation platform.


(II)  Characteristics

  1. Design research: Provision of diversified, local and international design courses, handling keynote speeches, independent research, design research forum, expansion of design knowledge,  available in-service training for people in related field or teachers.
  2. Cultural exchange: Incorporating local students from design fields, exchange students and international students, to give students access to interdisciplinary learning environment, and finally achieve our goals of academic and cultural exchange by interacting and exchanging with each other.
  3. Combining with the overall resources of Industry-Government-Academia Research, focusing on   media applications of Art for technology integration」 and pursuingDesign refinement, art of performance.  
  4.  Creative industries: Using technology and innovating R&D, promoting cultural and creative integrated design, linking resources of department, interschool and industry, and finally assisting in the development of cultural and creative industries, such as agriculture, tourism, religion and cultural and creative industries in order to expand influence of our local culture.
  5. International exchanges: By participating in international symposium, international design camp, international design competition and webcam exchanges, and promoting international exchange students to acquire opportunities of international exchanges for students.
  6.  「Looking at the world & Acting locally」, by means of foreign language skill mechanism, foreign language teaching, English paper writing and papers published in foreign languages to accumulate achievements of research and overseas experience, and then  thicken global focus of attention for teachers and students.



(III) Development strategy

1. Master

(1) Multiculturalism: Culture is the root of the design, to view global outlook as horizon and local culture as basis, to learn and experience different cultures, and then expand multicultural, cross-cultural and interdisciplinary academic researches.

(2) Design integration: To cultivate solving ability of integrated design issues, and train students to be equipped with concept of synchronous design and manufacture, application of reverse design, planning of marketing strategy and other practical design skills.

2. Ph.D

     Extending the multiculturalism into 「Design Theory and Education」 and 「Design Technology and Computing」, and boarding the design integration into 「Design Technology and Computing」 and 「Design Planning and Management」 to making the Doctoral degree develop into four major research fields and direction.


Design Theory and Education: Theoretical study of areas of expertise and interdisciplinary integration, and also longitudinal and transverse design education.

Design technology and computing: Applied research new media technology uses in auxiliary and computing of design process.

●Design Integration

Design, Humanities and Art: From the cultural and aesthetic point of view to discuss behavior of form and establish study of application mode.

Design Planning and Management: Overall design concept and practice, Design policy and strategy formulation, design management and other discussion and application.
